Pale yellow transparent liquid. Melting point -78℃, boiling point 265℃, relative density 1.006 (20/20℃), flash point 115℃. Soluble in organic solvents, difficult to dissolve in water, ketone smell.

As a special solvent, also used in herbicides, wood preservatives, pesticides and other aspects, mainly as carbamate herbicides solvent. It is also the raw material of o-phenyl phenol (OPP), a bactericidal preservative of citrus (OPP can be obtained by catalytic dehydrogenation of 2 (1-cyclohexenyl -1) cyclohexanone).

The product can be obtained by dewatering and condensation of cyclohexanone under the action of acid or base catalyst, heating under pressure, or treating with heated alumina, or treating with zinc chloride.
